Domain Registration and Buying Web Hosting
Hi there,
Here you will learn about web hosting and domain registration.
So I guess you are looking for one of those either you want to get your site hosted or you want to get a domain or perhaps both. Now I clearly understand that it is very hard to choose the right hosting for you with so many available ones these days. And you domain registration is a BIG step forward and you don’t want to mess it up. Hopefully you will have some valuable info after reading this article.
Let me start with domain registrations. Well first of you have to have a name that you want to register. It could be you company’s name, it could be your product’s name. Or well anything really… You can add sub pages to your site afterwards and call them whatever you like. If your desired domain name is already taken try variations with dashes or underscores. Try somewhat similar names. The thing to look out for is that it should not be hard to memorize. It could be something catchy or just one that would draw attention to your site. Registering a domain isn’t hard takes a few minutes. These days you can register one literally for pennies, but do check that the price doesn’t change too much few pages after. It should not go higher than 20 bucks for a year. Everyone wants dot com and if it is taken I would try some variations first and then decide if it’s really worth it. But there are lots of to choose from. Dot org or dot net do the job just fine for me. There isn’t a lot to say about domain registrations. It’s really very straight forward.
Now hosting your domain is another matter altogether. Usually same company’s that register domains also host them. But choosing the right plan can be tricky. What we have to look at first is. How big in megabytes or even gigabytes your site will be. If you plan on having some video or audio content on your site you should probably go for bigger space. Then one of the most important things to look at is file size restrictions. For example I was doing this personal site for someone. He already had everything hosting, domain name even the template for his site. All I had to do is modify it to his requirements. I worked the whole night because I’m not into flash but eventually I completed it he was happy the only thing left was to upload into our host. The main site file was over 4 MB it had lots flash content. But the site allowed only 1MB max. So the time I spent on it was wasted the money he spent on hosting was wasted too. So my point is making sure that they don’t have restrictions or at least reasonable size is allowed. Then second big thing you have to look out for is bandwidth. Best to get unlimited one, because let’s say every time someone loads my page I want them to hear some music playing in the background. If your bandwidth is limited then that music will eat it up and no more website until it is restored. And one last big thing I would look at is what type of scripting do they support. It depends on what you will be running on your site, but for example you would like your site to have a forum. You would need support for PHP and you would need SQL Databases too. They usually have different offers that will suite your needs and pocket. Personally I would recommend go with free hosting and just use your domain name until you have confidence and know exactly what you need for your site. You can always cover domain names so you can link pages from different hosts. I recommed searching there are lots. You can also try those posted at the bottom. I find that their deals are great and flexible. So don't hesitate since you have this info now!
